For the Banana Bread

  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.75 cups brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.5 cups sour cream
  • 1.5 cups mashed ripe bananas about 3 bananas
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Salted Caramel Glaze

  • 0.5 cups brown sugar
  • 0.25 cups unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 0.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
  • Stir in sour cream, mashed bananas, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Gradually fold the dry mixture into the wet mixture. Stir gently until just combined; do not overmix.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 55–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • While the bread cools, prepare the glaze: melt brown sugar and butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Boil for 1 minute.
  • Remove from heat. Whisk in heavy cream, powdered sugar, and kosher salt until smooth.
  • Let the glaze cool slightly, then drizzle generously over the cooled banana bread.

Notes

This banana bread is perfect with morning coffee or for dessert with ice cream.
