Ingredients
  

For the brownie batter

  • ½ cup unsalted butter 115g
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar packed, 100g
  • ½ cup granulated sugar 100g
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour spooned and leveled, 65g
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder 40g
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3.5 oz 70% cocoa chocolate bar chopped (I used Lindt), 100g

For the chocolate chip cookie dough

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter 90g
  • cup dark brown sugar packed, 67g
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar 50g
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour spooned and leveled, 130g
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips plus more for sprinkling on top, 130g
  • flaky sea salt optional - for topping

Instructions
 

Make the brownie batter

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Butter an 8x8 inch pan and line with parchment paper.
  • Melt butter on medium heat until fully melted and sizzling.
  • Pour the butter into a large bowl and mix in brown and granulated sugars.
  • Whisk in the eggs and vanilla.
  • Add in flour, cocoa powder, salt, and chopped chocolate. Mix until just combined.
  • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and set aside.

Make the cookie dough

  • Heat butter in a pot over medium heat until melted.
  • Pour the butter into a bowl and mix in brown and granulated sugars.
  • Add the egg and vanilla and whisk until smooth.
  • Add flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt. Mix until streak free.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Dollop chunks of cookie dough over the brownie batter.
  • Gently press cookie dough down into the brownie batter and even out the top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, then bang on counter.
  • Bake for another 8-12 minutes or until cookie dough is browned.
  • Cool completely before slicing. Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top if desired.
